Lani is based in Brisbane, Australia and her art focusses on storytelling, promoting awareness around mental health, and using art to communicate emotions and thoughts- both serious and whimsical.
Lani has a Bachelor of Social Science (human services/human behaviour) and a Master of Mental Health (art therapy) and works as a Clinical Art Therapist as well as creating her own artworks.
Lani's art practice can be summed up by the following beliefs:
Art does not have to be about skill but instead the experience and process of creating (which can totally transcend regular day-to-day living, and also help to make sense of it. and it’s so FUN!)
Art should be available to everyone, not just those who have studied it or understand it technically…art is not reserved for technically ‘good’ artists
Art serves a purpose; to bring peace, calm and understanding to what can at times be a tumultuous life. It also brings clarification in the same way writing a journal entry might bring clarification of a thought or experience. Art tells stories, it allows for interesting communication, it connects us not only to our own story but to something bigger than ourselves.
Lani currently works as a clinical art therapist in a private psychology practice and makes prints and originals available on request.
